Results & Review

Beitrag von sproksch »

Dear students,

the exam is corrected and I sent the (preliminary) grades to the examination office today, you should be able to see your personal result in TUCaN. You can review the correction of your exam on September 18 at 13:00h in room A213.

best regards
Sebastian

There will be an examination next semester... it is not clear yet if it is a written or an oral exam.

I can not attend the review personally, but a friend who also attended this course is willing to look into my exam.

What must he have from me to be able to look into my exam? A formless, signed paper?

There are two alternatives:
  • Authorize your friend with a formless (signed!) paper. Your friend needs to authenticate itself with a photographic identification (= Personalausweis or driving license).
  • Write me a mail and we find another date where you can review your exam. This date should be before Oct 10, because I cannot provide the final grades to the examination office before all reviews took place.

I have a question regarding the grading: Did you assign negative points to wrong answers?

No, tasks did not grant less than 0 points.

Didn't you mention something like that when reading the rules in front of the class??

Wrong answers in a single task might result in a subtraction, but that only affects the corresponding task. A task is never assessed with less than 0 points.

Ok, just that I get what you mean: Suppose there was task (1) which consisted of subtasks (a) and (b). If I wrote a wrong answer for (b) did that mean that the whole result for the single task (1) was subtracted by the negative points of (b)? Or did (b) have an overall minimum of 0 points (considering that subtasks are single tasks) and did not affect the sum of all subtasks of (1)?

Example:
1)
a) => answer right: 3 points
b) => answer wrong: -2 points

First scheme: (1) => 3-2 = 1 point
Second scheme: (1) => 3+0 = 3 points

Differently asked: What is the scope of a single task?

I think this is a very theoretical question. We only subtracted points when it was obvious that the student had no idea what he was writing and tried to get points solely with "guessing"... regardless of e.g. valid syntax (esp. in the AspectJ and CaesarJ tasks).

For your example this means:
1.a 3P -> 3P
1.b -2P -> 0P
1.total -> 3P

In general I can say that we did not subtracted points very often.

Ah, I see. Well, I suggest that this point should be more clarified in advance for the next exam. Otherwise students (or at least me) might get quite uncertain whether they should write an answer if they are not 100% certain about the accuracy (because they fear that it might lead to an overall worse grade...) - so it is just a bad distraction if you mention it right before the exam.
