what is the difference between the commands rbg2gray and colormap gray?

and i guess the maximum and minimum are the extreme values of the whole image?

rbgtogray converts the image from a 3 dimensional Matrix what means nxmx3 into a one dimensional matrix.

colormap gray is only for showing a grayscale image in gray colors.
if you don't do this the picture gets colored but in a strange way.

min and max of a Matrix gives you the minimum and maximum of each column vector of the matrix.
