Orientation week

Q: Where can I find information concerning the Ophase?

Q: Do I have to register for Ophase?

A: Registration is not mandatory to participate in the Ophase; however it makes planning a lot easier for us, and insures that you receive up-to-date information if you register at: https://anmeldung.d120.de/ophase/ws-2021-22/

Prep Courses

Q: Where can I find information about the maths prep course? (German, B.Sc. students)

Q: Do I have to register for the programming prep course? (German, designed for B.Sc. students)

Q: I need a password to sign into the maths prep course. Where do I get it?

A:  Students receice the password from their department (e.g. FB 20 Computer Science). For computer scince students the key was in an e-mail by Guido Rößling, with the subject line „Ihre Bewerbung am Fachbereich Informatik der Technischen Universität Darmstadt“. If you still can't find the password, please write an e-mail to beratung@informatik.tu-darmstadt.de .

 

Studies

Q: Is there a minor subject in B.Sc. Computer Science (PO 2015)?

A: No, there is no minor subject in our bachelor's program in computer science. There is a possibility to include a small number (3-6) of ECTS in interdisciplinary courses (e.g. a language course or a lecture from another subject -- caution is advised not to take a compulsory course from a master/minor)!

Q: For which courses should I register in the first semester (B.Sc.)?

A: The study regulations for the Bachelor of Computer Science, PO2015 intends to sign up for the following courses in the first semester: Functional and Object-Oriented Programming Concepts; Automata, Formal Languages and Decidability; Digital Technology; Mathematics I for Computer Science and Business Informatics. In addition to that, you have to sign up for the Mentor System for Computer Science (iMS) in the first semester. It makes sense to follow this recommendation, but you can basically take or skip any course you like.

Q: Is there a minimum number of CP that I must complete per semester?

A: No, there is no minimum number of CP you have to gain each semester. The mentor system (iMS) ensures your academic success (for bachelor students only).

Q: Does one already take courses from the minor subject in the first semester of the M.Sc. Computer Science (PO 2015) Master program?

A: There are no compulsory courses in the M.Sc. Computer Science. That means that you can/must choose/assemble the courses yourself from the first semester on. It is not necessary to do ECTS for the minor subject in the 1st semester to stay in the regular curriculum. But it is definitely possible! You should (in some cases you have to) at least plan one summer and one winter semester (partially) for the minor subject.

Q: What do examinations in the digital semester look like?

F: Who can I contact if I have problems with the learning portal Informatik?

A: If you have any problems with the Lernportal Informatik you can contact Guido Rößling, the admin of the Lernportal Informatik. moodle@rbg.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de

F: Who can help in case of problems with TUCaN?

A: In case you have problems usinc TUCaN, visit https://www.tu-darmstadt.de/studieren/studierende_tu/studienorganisation_und_tucan/hilfe_und_faq/index.en.jsp.

F: I have problems with the central Moodle instance

A: Should you encounter Problems with the Campus-Moodle, additional information and support can be found here (unfortunately only in German) .

Organizational matters

F: How and when can the cost of the semester ticket be reimbursed?

A: If you are spending a semester abroad, have an ID card for the disabled, are writing your doctorate or thesis, are on vacation semester, are enrolled at two universities, have special health reasons or a LandesTicket Hessen, you  can apply for a refund of your semester ticket online at the AStA at semesterticket.asta.tu-darmstadt.de. To do so, you have to submit an application  in the web-portal and upload the necessary documents for the refund in the form of a photo or scan. In order to devalue the semester ticket, it must be presented to the AStA, who also accepts tickets sent by mail. For each semester, you have to apply for a new refund.
